I have been looking online just about two weeks now and done LOTS of research on vacations and vacation ideas. Well, I found something very interesting. Home- Schoolers and their parents teaching them get MAJOR DISCOUNTS in almost all Historical Museums, (Including Williamsburg VA) science and nature museums, and surrounding hotels. Aquariums are starting to give these discounts as well. I just find this .. awesome. Encouraging people to teach their kids the correct history, science, math, and geography is a must in this country. Chris posted not to long ago on schools teaching our kids fictional crap because it sounds nicer. Well crap sounds nicer than shit but it still has the same damn meaning. But, my point being, I think that Places like the Live Indian Villages in TN and VA, the Historic Williamsburg VA, Yellowstone National Park, and many other places doing this is a GOOD thing. I give them prop's for trying.
We have had the homeschooling talk. You guys know exactly how I feel about it. I think sometimes by sending children to the public school system we are cheating them. So much time is wasted on non-academic activities throughout the school day! In a typical seven hour day of school, MAYBE 3.5 to 4 hours is spent on actual academics. I say, keep your children at home and teach them all day long, in the environment they grow and learn best!
ReplyDeleteParents are the first and best teachers a child can have. I come under attack about my view from people who say "school is necessary for socialization," I think "socialization" is better achieved in situations with parents present such as church, family gatherings with cousins, or even with scheduled activities with other like minded families. This way when your child misbehaves you can correct them right then, not hours later, when they have likely forgot what they did wrong.
Another issue I have with public schools is how they try to cater to EVERYONE. We have all been in classes where there is that "one" child who cannot sit still or who the teacher has to spend more time yelling at or giving special attention to than they do teaching. I think those children do need the special help, but what about the child who is well behaved and paying attention? Is it fair that they get cheated out of valuable academic time?
Anyway!! I could go on for DAYS and I know you don't want to spend that much time reading this!!
Lol! Guess Who!!
